Today’s blog post almost didn’t happen. I was feeling pretty negative and didn’t really feel like I had anything positive or of value to share. However, I realized that by avoiding the task at hand, I wasn’t doing myself any favors. Plus, not every post has to be loaded with delight only. I named this blog Delightfully Sour for a reason. Am I right?
So anyways, I definitely have a tendency to be in a real negative mindset if I am not taking time for myself. With all of the prepping for the holidays and baby planning, I have slacked off on some self care. Today, I am taking the day to focus on myself and finding those positives! First of all, I know I can get into a negative cycle when I feel overwhelmed by circumstances outside of my control. When this happens, I like to focus on what I can do to make situations easier, or get back some control of the situation. Often times, it is something as simple as clearing the clutter from my space or making a phone call or sending an email I have been putting off. Nothing too fancy, but once I have cleared some physical clutter, I usually feel better mentally.
Also, this past year, I have learned to find gratitude. I try to make a habit of journaling what I am grateful for on a regular basis, and can definitely tell when I have let this habit slip! My intention for today is to find what I am grateful for. Once I have done this, the negatives are still there, but don’t seem as daunting since I was able to focus on all of the positives that I was turning a blind eye to before.
Finally, I like to just chill out and do something for myself. Usually, this is a weekly manicure/pedicure appointment. However, I haven’t been to the nail salon in over a month! Talk about neglect. This may sound silly to some, but taking time to just invest in yourself is so important. Whether it is getting in a workout, getting your hair done, whatever makes you happy! Although, I am not able to go today, I have scheduled a time to go get this done this week. Finally, I am going to be taking some time to just relax with my cats and read a book!
I hope you are all remembering to care for yourself this holiday season! If not, hopefully this will remind you and you can schedule some time for you!
