Have a wonderful weekend!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
I’ve been out of college now for 4 years…which seems crazy! Lately, I have been taking some trips down memory lane and had an epiphany of sorts that I want to share with you today. I recently had someone tell me that I wasn’t very competitive. Not thinking much of it initially, I realized later, that it implied a negative connotation….
Throughout school I was always “good enough”. Good enough to make the team, good enough to be in the play, good enough to win some type of honor or award. However, I was never the star, or one who naturally excelled. And I was okay with that. Actually, I was more than okay with it, I loved it. I was happy to be a part of the team and be a supporting role. I enjoyed working as a team when it came to sports. Playing the side role in drama class, setting up the lead for their lines, was something that I liked….
However, I always felt so conflicted about having this mindset….because it was often tied back to competition. “You’re not competitive enough”. “You have no drive.” “You are lazy.” “You are not working hard enough.” I often felt the pressure of wanting to do more and yet do less…way less. The more I pushed myself, the less fun I had. Because when it came down to it, I didn’t care to be the best runner, I didn’t care about getting a scholarship for sports in college….because I didn’t want that. I ran for fun and tried my best because I liked it. Also, I didn’t care about getting a sports scholarship because I didn’t want to play sports in college. I just wanted to enjoy my spot as the supporting role….good enough to contribute to the team….
As for not having drive, that couldn’t be further from the truth. I think that there is something way more important than competition. Passion. I felt passionate about learning. I wanted to be the absolute best I could be, push harder, work harder. Not to beat out anyone else, not to win an award, but because that was what I LOVED. I cared about it deeply. And I still do, I am constantly learning, trying to know more and apply it to making a difference where I can. It keeps me motivated. It keeps life exciting. Now don’t get me wrong, I think competition can be a positive thing too….if you’re passionate about what you want, it’s going to be worth it. I’m talking about winning for the sake of winning, without truly caring, but just wanting to win. How exhausting…
Competition can have a lot of dead ends…. only being “in it to win it”. I personally think it leads to wasted time, working towards something you don’t really want, only so someone else can’t have it. I’m happier focusing on my passions and letting others focus on theirs. When you’re working hard for what you want, you’ll always be successful because you will feel happy. Also, you’ll be making progress toward something that matters to you. What more could you want?
Happy April everyone!! I always get so excited this time of year…spring flowers popping up, warmer days scattered throughout, and the energy to declutter! I have some posts planned throughout the month with some of my best decluttering tips to share with you! However, for today, I am sharing with you all things that I loved in March. So without further ado, here are my March Favorites…
–Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Sandwash Pink: This lipstick is the perfect pinky nude. I have been wearing this on the go when I want to complete my look without going over the top.
–Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Palette: I received this palette for Christmas and it has been one of my go to palettes since! I have especially been loving the shades seashell, mermaid, cove, and starfish.
–Nars Eyeshadow in Earthshine: This eye shadow is so pretty! It has been my go to this month and looks great with other shades or worn alone.
–Bare Minerals Buttercream Lipgloss in Forbidden: I absolutely love this lipgloss. So much so, that I thought I lost it and immediately purchased another…I found it a few weeks later…but thats okay, now I have a backup! It is such a pretty pink and has a nice shine. Also, it isn’t sticky and my hair doesn’t get stuck in it which is a major plus. Does that ever happen to anyone else? So annoying.
–Stila Liquid Lipstick in Beso: I must say, I am so impressed with this lipstick. It is the truest red lipstick I have ever tried and it will be my go to red when I want a bold look. Also, it stays put. I applied this before a night out and never had to reapply.
–Brown Sueded WHBM Booties: I have talked about the booties SO much this month. And that is because I have been wearing them nonstop. They are so comfortable and have a memory foam footbed, so I can wear these all day long.
–Marc Fisher LTD Aaron Platform Wedge Espadrille: I am so excited about these wedges. I got a size 7 and they run true to size. They are so comfortable, which is important to me….I shudder looking back at pictures of the days I tortured my feet in uncomfortable shoes. Also, I am loving how these are closed toe, which really rounds out the type of summer shoes I own.
–Kendra Scott Earrings: I’m sure you have noticed that I have been wearing these earrings constantly. Aren’t they are absolutely beautiful?! I tend to have a hard time finding earrings that don’t bother my skin, as I am super sensitive to metals, however I have had no problems with these!
It’s official…I am obsessed with White House Black Market. You’ve probably already caught on to that fact…but seriously, their spring line is by far my favorite they have ever had. Once again, I just couldn’t say no to this bell sleeve off the shoulder top. To make it even better, it uses my two favorite colors of the season, an olive (military) green and pink! I ended up getting this shirt in a petite small, but honestly, on me, I think it fits the same way the small did. The sleeves hit about mid finger on me (I’m 5’2), so I am still able to pull this top off (or so I think. ;)). Also, excuse the chipped nail polish…it’s a constant battle in my life and I am constantly losing….
I cannot get enough of this tassel purse. It brings me so much delight every time I use it! Now that’s money well spend right?! What are some spring items you are loving right now? Let me know and I will check them out! If you’re needing a little bit of inspiration, I think these jeans are so cute. I’m also loving this dress (I bought one similar the other day!). I also think these lace up sandals would be perfect for spring and summer.
I’ve always been a “go getter”. I know what I want in life and I know what I believe in and stand for, and I never (I know, I know, never say never but, trust me, stubborn is a word I hear often) waiver. Needless to say, I sometimes tend to forget that I am human. That I am not some robot, making perfect decisions all the time. I forget that I too am allowed to mess up and make mistakes. I often have to stop and remember that I have two choices to move forward with. I can beat myself up about it and feel miserable, or I can learn from my mistakes and move on. Try and do better next time.
I know I’m not perfect, however I tend to hold myself to such high standards. This is of course, not a bad thing, but it can often be unrealistic. So today, I am choosing to go with grace. I’m letting go of the facade of perfection. Today, I will be doing the best I can and laughing along the way. I hope you will be too!
I am absolutely loving all of the floral patterns this spring. Also, I’m sure that you know by now off the shoulder tops have become a spring staple of mine! I am loving these tops from Nordstrom here, here, here, and here! I think they would be perfect for just about any occasion.
My weekend consisted of quality family time, which is always my favorite. Friday I headed up to my parent’s home to spend some much needed time with them. I love taking walks around their property and am so glad the weather is warming up! I am seeing their woods come alive again. Something about spring just seems so motivating to me. Saturday my mom and I went to the Tristate Women’s Expo and had an absolute blast. I couldn’t believe how many vendors were there and took home quite a bit of freebies as well as a few too many purchases! My olive dress was just what I needed for a cute casual look!
The morning started off a bit chilly, but I didn’t mind as I was excited to wear this embroidered denim jacket. It is currently sold out, but you can find one similar here and here. Also, I am loving these booties from WHBM. I have been wearing them all the time. Trust me, they are SO comfy. Finally, to finish off the look I decided on my leather tote to hold all of my purchases from the event! I purchased this locally, however you can find one similar here. I also am loving this one!
I’ve recently been on quite a few shopping sprees, and I must say, I finally have the clothing aspect covered. I still am missing 3 key pieces for my spring wardrobe, however. The last pieces that I am keeping an eye out for on my spring wish list is a cute bathing suit coverup and a versatile pair of slip on sneakers. Finally, I am still on the hunt for the perfect pair of shorts for those warmer spring days!
With cold weather coming back into the forecast, yesterday was exactly what I needed to get me through the end of winter. Sun shining on my face, daffodils in bloom, birds chirping, the sound of lawn mowers… all reminding me that spring is only a couple of weeks away and that warm weather will soon be here to stay. I couldn’t think of a better day to bring out my Ella Moss lace bomber jacket.
I absolutely love the openwork lace detailing. The lace adds such a beautiful and feminine vibe to the bomber jacket, versus a sportier look. Wanting the jacket to really speak for itself, I thought it paired nicely with a plain white tee.
Also, these Dolce Vita peep toe mules are by far my favorite shoe. I received them in a Stitch Fix box and have worn them too many times to count. The stacked heel makes them so comfortable and they pair well with almost every outfit. If you’re looking for a new mule, I highly recommend these. I have them in black, however the taupe option is beautiful too. They are currently on sale and selling out fast!
Yesterday I mentioned a few of my favorite Nordstrom sale items here. I seem to always be perusing through their sale section and also really like these jeans and this bomber jacket (for a sporty, edgier look). I also think these earrings are so pretty, as well as these shoes.
Hi all! My favorite Betsey Johnson Faux Fur Jacket is currently on sale at Nordstrom. This jacket is so adorable and looks great with jeans and a tee. I own it in pink but the beige option is super cute as well. What I love about this jacket is that it is also reversible. I love when one piece can work multiple ways. Go check it out, it is currently under $100.00!
Some other sale items I am currently loving are the Lush ruffle tee in blush (however comes in other colors) and this Gibson ruffle hem top in ivory. I also think this Free People ‘Malibu’ thermal top is perfect for those chilly days. It comes in so many color options, but I personally like the black option the best. Another item for the colder spring days that I am loving is this BP. Olive Jacket.
One item I would not live without is a good pair of faux leather leggings. This pair by BP. are currently under $20.00. Also, going along with the BP. theme, I am loving these square stud earrings. They come in a set of two, have so many gorgeous colors, and are under $10.00. Such a steal!
I love a good pair of booties year round and think these by Vince Camuto are absolutely perfect for any season. I also think this Fire sweatshirt dress and Free People pullover are so cute and look super comfy. Finally, I am loving this Madewell Cotton Vneck Tee in Green. I think it is such a fun pop of color for springtime and it looks so soft.
What are some of your favorite pieces? Are there any looks you can’t wait to try out this Spring? I know that I am excited to wear some lighter options. I love sweaters but am so ready to transition into the warmer months. Happy Shopping!
This past Thursday, my husband and I took off for an extended weekend getaway to Las Vegas. Around this time of year we both start feeling the need to take a mini break. A little change of pace and change of scenery helps us keep our motivation during the transition of the seasons. Thursday we enjoyed a low key dinner and walked the strip taking in all of the sights and making plans for the rest of our weekend. We stayed at The Palazzo and I absolutely loved it there.
Friday we enjoyed a day at the pool and soaked in as much sun as we could (with sunscreen applied ;)). With all of the rain we have been experiencing in Indiana, the sun was such a delight. Then, we got a bit of exercise walking the strip and stopping in some shops. I may or may not have purchased these beauties in black. I can always justify an expensive purchase when on vacation, it seems like a souvenir of sorts.
We had dinner at Cut which was absolutely amazing. I had the pork chop which was giant and oh so delicious. For dessert my husband and I shared the creme brûlée, our go to vacation dessert. We ended the night by hopping on the Las Vegas High Roller to get a view of the city. It was gorgeous, but I must say, I was a little nervous as I am not a fan of heights.
Saturday we enjoyed another day at the pool and relaxed there for most of the day. We then had dinner at the Eiffel Tower Las Vegas Restaurant. My husband and I weren’t sure what this would be like and had expected it to be a bit gimmicky. We were surprised at how beautiful the restaurant was and that we were able to have a window seat, looking over the city as we ate. We then went to see O Cirque Du Soleil. I highly recommend seeing this show. It was absolutely amazing.
Finally, Sunday we enjoyed a hot stone massage at the Canyon Ranch Spa in our hotel. We then made our way back home. I am so grateful for these weekend getaways to just relax and enjoy new experiences and quality time with my husband. Of course, we’re always ready to be back home at the end of the weekend and see our two baby cats. 😉
